Martha’s Artist Salon

Presented by Boston Center for the Arts
Calderwood Pavillion at the BCA 527 Tremont Street , Boston

Andrea Blesso Albuquerque (BCA), Lorraine Chapman (LCTC) and David Henry (ICA) have come together to create a space of learning and sharing meant for choreographers, dancers and dance audiences interested in expanding their perspectives of what dance is today and might be tomorrow.

Join us for idle conversation, heated exchange and the sporadic, sometimes thematic exploration of ideas that grow out of and into dance.

4/25 – hosted by Hortense Gerardo

Please note different BCA location for this session!

Hortense will facilitate a discussion based on the origins and genealogical influences of Ankoku buto – the Dance of Darkness. The discussion will include but not be limited to a comparison of the works of its pioneers, Tatsumi Hijikata and Kazuo Ohno, and their broad influence on choreographers ranging from Amagatsu Ushio of Sankai Juku, Maureen Fleming and Jiri Kylián of Nederlands Dans Theater.

Please email Andrea Blesso with topic suggestions or if you’d like to host a Martha’s session.
