SANKOFA
“The Roxbury Center for the Performing Arts production of SANKOFA celebrates the rich history of the people of the African diaspora and brings you on a journey from the African kingdoms, through the Middle Passage, the cotton fields, to Harlem Renaissance, Civil Rights Movement, social justice, the election of President Obama and recent successes in United States Congress and more. According to Ms. Andrea Herbert-Major, Artistic Director/Founder of the Roxbury Center for the Performing Arts, each year, the Roxbury Center for the Performing Arts uses dance, song and spoken word to tell the stories of Black History and how so many survived and triumphed over hatred, discrimination and racism. Each year a new story is told so don’t think you’ve seen everything!
