Isaac de los Reyes’ El Jaleo
Inspired by John Singer Sargent’s travels as a young artist in Spain, Isaac de los Reyes presents a fantasy exploring the motivations and experiences that drove the society portrait artist to capture the beauty, passion and power of flamenco in his painting El Jaleo. The audience will be transported to the flamenco caves of Granada in the late 19th century as well as into the mind of an artist in the midst of translating a new world of movement and rhythm onto canvas.
Isaac de los Reyes is joined by his brother, flamenco dancer Nino de los Reyes (Paul Simon’s “Stranger to Stranger”, Chick Corea’s Flamenco Heart Band), contemporary dancer Michael Figueroa (Ruckus Dance), multiple Latin Grammy Award winning musician and producer (Concha Buika, Enrique Morente) Javier Limon (Casa Limon), pop artist Domingo Zapata and costume designer Belen Quintana for this unique performance.
This project made possible in part by a Live Arts grant from the Boston Foundation.
