Congratulations to Boston Center for the Arts and Director of Dance and Interdisciplinary Arts Andrea Blesso on the announcement of the renovation of a new dance space, Studio 414, in the Arts Studio Building! We look forward to visiting this dedicated space for experimentation and professional development.
The dance community is heartbroken at the unexpected passing of dancer and scientist Frederick Moss. Fred danced with Urbanity Dance, Connections Dance Theater, Jenna Pollack, The Davis Sisters, Peter DiMuro/Public Displays of Motion, ZACHOR, and VLA Dance (apologies if we left out any of his collaborators.). He was working towards a PhD in synthetic organic chemisty at Harvard and hoped to use dance and performance as a medium for science education. Our deepest condolences to all who loved this talented man.

Lucky Plush Productions is offering a Devising Dance Theater Workshop at The Yard on Martha’s Vineyard. The workshop is designed for intermediate-experienced dancers and actors. QUEER CABARETS, the performance project that has grown from STONES TO RAINBOWS/GAY TO QUEER LIVES by Peter DiMuro/Public Displays of Motion, is presented with a rotating cast of singers, comedians, dancers, poets and drag artists June 16-19 at the Central Square Theatre in a range of works reflecting on love, loss and LGBTQ+ liberation.

Kairos Dance Theater is featured at the Medicine Wheel/SPOKE Annual Fundraising Gala with proceeds going towards the transformation of Medicine Wheel’s new space into a cultural hub for art, performance and community programming! Juneteenth Block Party at Nubian Square features ÜNI by Boston Ballet, a multimedia pop-up experience that brings people together and breaks down preconceived notions about dance. The one-of-a-kind dome structure for presenting expansive dance films and audio-visual artworks is both an intimate experience and sculptural spectacle for the senses. Marblehead School of Ballet presents a ‘Polish Folk Dance‘ class with Eddie Lempitski, an MSB graduate and a past performer with the North Shore Civic Ballet. Eddie was a member of the Krakowiak Polish Dancers of Boston and performed throughout North America and Poland. Learn the Krakowiak, the national dance of Poland, and if time permits, the Polish polka.

Framingham’s daylong Many Cultures, One Heart festival on Saturday June 18 features CJT Dream Dance with both classical Chinese and K-Pop dance; Kasibahagua Indigenous Dancers from the Taino Arawak tribe; MOHI Parivar, a MetroWest Indian Parivar, whose student groups perform a fusion of classical dance forms of Kathak and Bharatanatyam, as well as a Bhangra folk dance; and Heavey Quinn’s talented young Irish stepdancers. Plus arts and crafts, music, and more to put the spotlight on the community’s diversity.
Celebrate Pride with Catherine Siller‘s “The Reveal,” a free interactive dance performance about finding joy in gender. The 45-minute performance will be followed by a brief audience talkback. There will be Spanish captions throughout the performance and an interpreter for the talkback. Masks are required and will be provided at the door. Capacity is limited. Motion State Dance Film Series invites filmmakers to submit short films (maximum duration 15 minutes) to its traveling film festival. Focus is on works where dance and cinematography play equal creative roles. Motion State Dance Film Series is excited to explore the ever-expanding definitions of “dance” and “choreography,” and is open to including films that use adjacent technologies, such as animation, computer graphics, and puppetry. Deadline is August 5.
