The ballet class is meant for intermediate to professional dancers that follows a traditional barre then moves into the center. This is a classical ballet class that has elements of George Balanchine’s stylistic emphasis in it, such as speed, clarity and musicality. Also highly incorporated into the class is the full movement qualities of William Forsythe‘s approach to ballet. The music that will be used will be a variety of classical and electronic. The exercises and their connection to the various styles of music help the dancer to bring out a fuller movement quality into the combinations.

William Forsythe was director of Ballet Frankfurt from 1984-2004 and in those 20 years radically changed how we look at and can dance ballet. For this specific Forsythe repertoire class, I will be focusing on the more balletic style as opposed to the more modern and contemporary and improvisational works that he is also known for. Specifically, we will be learning steps from the ballet “Artifact”.
