Jacob’s Pillow‘s newly-streamlined online platform hosts commissioned films, short dance documentaries, PillowTalks, and excerpts from their 90th Anniversary presentation of America(na) to Me—plus, special monthly releases of full-length performances, beautifully shot and edited by Nel Shelby Productions.

In addition to their free content, each monthly release will be available to stream for $15, with unlimited access to watch for six weeks. This series begins with an encore presentation of Dorrance Dance Plays the Pillow, streaming November 7.

Tony Rizzi, former principal ballet dancer with Ballet Frankfurt will be teaching Intermediate/Advanced Ballet classes at The Dance Complex. This “joy of movement” ballet class incorporates George Balanchine’s stylistic emphasis such as speed, clarity and musicality and  William Forsythe’s approach to ballet. Tuesday, October 25-Thursday, November 3.

Join Dances at Noon in the Jackson Dance Lab at Tufts University for an afternoon of Kathak dance. Kathak is characterized by percussive footwork, intricate rhythms, lush movements, and dramatic storytelling. Facilitated by faculty artist Gretchen Hayden-Ruckert, the event features performances by Shefali Jain and Hindustani musicians Jayanta Banerjee and Satyaprakash Mishra. Free  Friday, October 28, 12-1 PM at 50 Talbot Avenue.

Hibernian Hall hosts “ALIVE,” a dance theater experience with immersive elements, live music, awe-inspiring visuals, and costumes. Sight, sound, and motion pull you into a world of excitement, joy, and triumph. With a cast of 11 performers, VLA Dance’s  “ALIVE” will take you through the dreamy journey of Ayo, guided by Ubuntu, as they follow their heartbeat. Friday, October 28- November 6 at Hibernian Hall.

Tony Rizzi and the Bad Habits perform Before, During and After (working with William Forsythe) at Complex@Canal using humor to tell stories and to reflect on the key impulses that contributed to the uniqueness, magic and myth of Forsythe and his dancers. Friday, October 28 & Saturday, October 29 at 8 PM, Sunday, October 30 at 7 PM.

Side by Side, a double-bill performance conceived by Tony Williams, Artistic Director of City Ballet of Boston, and Katherine Hooper,  Artistic Director of BoSoma Dance Company, offers a wide range of 21st-century original and newly re-staged works including a fresh look at Jose Limon’s iconic The Moor’s Pavane. Friday, October 28- Sunday, October 30 at the Boston Center for the Arts.

Jose Mateo Ballet Theatre hosts an Open House at its Dorchester location. Join for free trial classes for ages 3-6 and a performance by YouthWorks. Saturday, October 29, 9:00 AM – 1:45 PM.

Kathak & Sitar: Music and Dance of North India  Wellesley College presents kathak artist Shefali Jain with special guests Jayanta Banerjee on sitar and Satyaprakash Mishra on tabla. Presented in a traditional, intimate style of a mehfil or house concert – the audience will get to experience dance, music, and the often improvised exchange between the two Sunday, October 30, 4 PM, at Pendleton West 201. A video will be posted within a week.

Mitchell Rose, former choreographer and performing artist, has released his new film made with Bebe Miller, Blue Study on Facebook. Two minutes long and one year in the making. 70 women weave together a choreographic thread in a study that takes a closer view.

OPEN CALL: Calling all Boston BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color), immigrant, new American artists and their collaborators! BCA’s ACTivate Residency is now accepting applications to support artists who want to explore an idea or concept in their iconic Cyclorama. Application deadline is this Sunday, October 30, by 11 PM.

A new cycle of the Performing Arts Discovery (PAD) program opens in November, and they are looking for more applicants from New England. Prior experience with international touring is not required, but artists must demonstrate readiness to tour internationally and have work ready to tour within the next three years. PAD especially encourages those who self-identify as BIPOC and/or LGBTQ+ to apply.
