Global Arts Live presents Boston Dance Theater in The Carol Kaye Project, which celebrates the legacy of seminal bassist Carol Kaye who played on an estimated 10,000 recording sessions with everyone from The Beach Boys to Marvin Gaye, yet remains relatively unknown. Circus 617, a local contemporary circus company that’s creating shows featuring professional circus artists who are local to the Boston area, debuts with “Gathering the Threads“. This is an allegory about weaving together loose ends, rebuilding ties, and re-finding each other after separation. Saturday, November 12 at 7:30 PM and Sunday, November 13 at 3 PM, at BU Dance Theater.
“As We Rise” is a site-specific video installation featuring short bursts of Breaking from a multi-generational line up of Massachusetts based breakers. The digitally-designed video highlights the Breakers’ movements as they interpret music in the moment and engage techniques in ways that reflect their individual styles. Now until Tuesday, November 29, from dusk until 10 PM each day, the installation will be projected on the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston (600 Atlantic Ave, Boston MA) and will be viewable from various sites along the Rose Kennedy Greenway.
With actions drawn from dance, sportsmanship, and pageantry, New Formations explores modes of kinship, alliance, and competition. Through contemporary photography, video, and painting, this exhibition features human bodies in powerful athletic performance, ecstatic expressions of dance and collective procession. Artworks on view convey disparities across race, age, and gender that shape how our bodies move through the world and are seen by others. Exhibit runs from Thursday, October 6, 2022 to Monday, March 13, 2023 at the deCordova Sculpture Park and Museum.

Audition to be an apprentice with Beautease! Performers of all experience levels, shapes, sizes, and skin colors are welcome! Their program begins almost immediately and runs for six months. They currently rehearse in Jamaica Plain on Wednesday and Sunday evenings (7-10 PM). Auditions are Wednesday, November 9 or Sunday, November 13 at 7:30 PM (you only need to be able to make one of those days) at The Tony Williams Dance Center in JP. Please sign-up in advance!
Be a part of ON DISPLAY HARVARD 2022, a collaboration with ON DISPLAY GLOBAL, a worldwide movement installation and social justice initiative created by physically-integrated dance company Heidi Latsky Dance. This year, ON DISPLAY HARVARD will be performed in a hybrid setting with an in-person performance at Memorial Hall Transept, 45 Quincy Street, at 11 AM on Saturday, December 3, the United Nations’ International Day of Persons with Disabilities. The performance will also be viewed live around the world via ON DISPLAY GLOBAL’S 24-hour Zoom and Livestream platform and will be digitally mediated later in the evening at the Graduate School of Design (GSD) Pavilion. Persons both with or without disabilities (visible and/or invisible) are invited to participate in ON DISPLAY HARVARD. No previous dance or performance experience needed. Participation entails performing the work at Memorial Hall Transept. Performing participants will be taught the work in a training session on Tuesday, November 22, 6:00-7:30 PM at Harvard Dance Center, 66 Garden St. Virtual options for learning the work live and via the recording will be available.

Register for the Massachusetts High School Dance Festival at Salem State University. Each studio/school is invited to perform one piece up to 5 minutes in length. The Massachusetts Dance Educators Organization is hosting a free workshop for professional dance educators to explore their teaching practice, as well as offering methods to implement into their studio classes. Open to participants ages 14+. Participants must be in high school at the time of the festival. Registration deadline is Wednesday, November 9. Festival takes place on Saturday, November 19 at Salem State University O’Keefe Complex, 225 Canal Street.
