MassCreative has sent a letter to the new administration of Governor Maura Healey endorsed by many local arts organizations and individuals calling for $5 per capita for the Mass Cultural Council in the next state budget. This would bring the budget to $35 million from its current  $23.4 million in FY23, approximately $3.28 per capita, which was a 9.4% increase from the year prior.

It’s always a good time to reach out to your state senator and representative to let them know that the arts deserve increased support!

Celebrate love this Valentine’s Day and show how much you care by sharing an experience to remember with your partner. Join Elzz for a Female Dancehall workshop! This workshop, while open to all genders, will focus on what is considered traditional female Dancehall movement. Dancehall is a style of dance, music, and culture from Jamaica and was developed out of an ongoing need for expression and escape from hardship. Workshop participants will learn popular Dancehall moves, combining them into choreography. Wednesday, February 15, 8:30 PM at the Dance Complex.

Join Versa-Style Dance Company in Pittsfield for a free workshop followed by a performance! Learn the fundamentals of street dance forms including Hip Hop, Popping, House, Waacking, and Krump. Are you a dancer with caregiving responsibilities and trying to juggle it all?  The Parent Artist Advocacy League is conducting a survey for a multi-year study and wants to hear from you as part of an overall mission to support creatives in the performing arts and media. Deadline is March 1.

2023 Salem Arts Festival DANCE applications are live! Apply to perform on their tiny 4′ x 4′ outdoor stage or in their beautiful and historic Old Town Hall. This is a free-to-the-public, family-friendly event. Audience interaction, spectacle, and eye-catching costumes are especially encouraged. Festival runs June 2-4. Dancers needed for “Constellation Stories” performance! Luminarium is looking for 7 dancers to restage Guerra’s piece “Constellation Stories”. This 14-minute contemporary piece will be performed at the Boston Museum of Science on May 18 as part of a larger production of the same name. Dancers MUST be available for the March 9 rehearsal, May 17 Tech Rehearsal, and May 18 performance. Preference will be given to dancers who can additionally attend BOTH of the two review rehearsals (April 18 and May 12).

Gann Academy’s Dance Company seeks Guest Teacher. The Gann Dance Company is a group of high school dancers that frequently explore contemporary, modern, and improvisational movement twice a week together. The Guest Artist would teach at the Gann campus (in Waltham) on May 22 and 24 from 4:00-5:00. The stipend for this guest teaching is $300. Through this guesting experience, the goal is to give the students the opportunity to explore a new (to them) movement form. The students have expressed specific interest in learning Tango, Flamenco, or Capoeira, but they would be eager to explore other classes as well! NEFA seeks a full-time Program Manager, Regional Grants and Initiatives. The Program Manager, Regional Grants and Initiatives, manages and implements all aspects of NEFA’s suite of programs, services, and initiatives that build the capacity of New England artists and arts organizations through grantmaking, professional development, partnerships and network building.

Expand Massachusetts Stories (Up to $20,000) grants support projects that collect, interpret, and share narratives about the commonwealth, emphasizing the voices and experiences that have gone unrecognized or have been excluded from public conversation. As part of the EMS grant program, Mass Humanities also offers Advancing Equity Track grants to 15 applicants whose projects are led by people from historically excluded communities, and whose organizations meet additional criteria. The Advancing Equity Track applications are open with Letter of Inquiries due on Monday, March 20. Applications for the EMS Open Track opens Monday, March 20, with applications due on Monday, May 22. An online webinar for anyone interested in applying takes place on Thursday, February 16 at 1 PM. A video of the webinar will be shared on masshumanities.org. This is one grant where having a clear sense of your eligibility really matters, so watch the webinar!
