Experience “Stray Bird” featuring the New Chamber Ballet and Momenta String Quartet Thursday, May 25, 6:30 PM and 8:30 PM at the Goethe-Institut Boston, 170 Beacon Street, Boston. Choreographer and composer Miro Magloire combines contemporary dance and music in a tribute to composer Ursula Mamlok. Mamlok was born to a Jewish family in Berlin in 1923, and by her early teens was a precocious talent on her way to becoming a composer. Then Germany descended into Nazi oppression, and in 1938, when Mamlok was 16, she and her parents made a last-minute escape to Ecuador. Free, but registration requested.

Legendary and beloved tap dancer Brenda Bufalino presents “BLUE HERON FLIES and it startles me out of my slumber” an evening of original music, poetry, solo improvisation, and jazz standards. Longtime collaborators Paul Arslanian and Joe Fonda will accompany her on piano and bass. Thursday, May 25, 7 PM at the Regent Theatre, Arlington, MA.
Directed and choreographed by Jessi Stegall, The Theremin Vignettes is an evening-length dance-theatre production set to and inspired by the music and life of thereminist Clara Rockmore. Rockmore, a Lithuanian-Jewish woman and music virtuoso, remains under-recognized for her immense contribution to electronic music. The Theremin Vignettes is an ode to Clara and her beautifully bizarre music. This special showcase is the culmination of Jessi Stegall’s Boston Dancemakers Residency, a partnership between BDA and Boston Center for the Arts. Eliza Malecki is seeking 4 dancers for a dance fashion show taking place on August 26. The show will be a private event celebrating the launch of a beauty brand. Dancers and models will create a cohesive ~20 minute long movement experience showcasing garments (by a local designer TBA!), movement, and beautiful makeup. “If communities had Dance Courts–like basketball courts–how would that change social life?” Reimagine our dance ecology with community and The Design Studio for Social Intervention (DS4SI). The two day training happens June 10th + 11th, 11am – 5pm, 2023 (delicious meals provided). Applicants must attend both days of the training. Apply here by Wednesday May 24. You do not have to be a Boston resident.

Boston Bhangra is having tryouts for their senior and junior Boston Bhangra teams. Bhangra is an energetic folk dance based out Punjab region of India, a fusion of hip hop and cheerleading with a folk twist. The tryout is open to all, free and done entirely online! Fill out a form, include the video by June 16 and applicants will be provided the link for the tryout video on June 18. Impulse Talent Group seeks energetic and enthusiastic people between the ages of 18-40 and at least 5’4” in height to act as Flag Bearers for the Lions Club International Opening Ceremony. A background in dance, cheerleading, marching band, or color guard is a plus! Must be able to learn and remember simple walking patterns while carrying a flag. The ceremony on show day will last about 45 minutes. Registration for the summer Young Dancers Program at Salsa y Control Dance Studio in Allston is now open! The program runs on Sundays between June 4 and August 27. Kids’ (ages 4-12) classes are at 10 AM and Teens’ (13-17) are at 11 AM.

The Cultural Equity Learning Community (CELC) is a two-unit, 12 session, asynchronous anti-racism course with wrap-around supports open to arts and culture leaders committed to building intersectional racial equity. Register by July 19 or before 300 participants join!
