Workshops and classes offer dancers an opportunity to expand acting skills and emotional range within performing through the exploration of different approaches to physical characterization and character interaction.
Chiara D’Anna, international actor, director, lecturer, movement coach and Commedia dell’Arte specialist, will integrate a range of techniques and approaches inspired by Commedia dell’Arte, an ancient form of popular theatre originated in Italy in the 16th century, along with her own contemporary training methodology known as ‘Core Training’.
The intensive weekend workshop will set up a series of ‘skills’; the daily classes will go deeper, continuing to build and expand on those skills. Chiara will give a brief overview of the specific methods and techniques being employed at the beginning of each daily class, making it possible for students to ‘drop-in’ if desired.
Chiara D’Anna holds an MA in Physical Theatre from Royal Holloway University and a PhD in Performing Arts from London Metropolitan University. Her practice-led research on the legacy of Commedia dell’Arte in Post-Dramatic Theatre focusses on the centrality of the actor in devised performance.
