As the weather gets warmer it’s great to see so many events moving outdoors. It’s not only a great way to connect to the community and to the environment, but also an exciting way to get some fresh air. If you’re planning on having outdoor events, consider renting out our portable floor. The floor is easy to assemble, below market rate and can help you bring dance anywhere! Please submit your requests as early as possible so we can reserve the floor for your desired dates and make sure you have a smooth experience.

Congratulations to Dance Professors Stephen Tracey-Ursprung and former BDA Dance Champion, Thelma Goldberg, on their Excellence in Teaching Awards. Both professors are being recognized for their outstanding contributions to Dean College and for empowering their students.
BDA Member Events This Week
Join Kathak Artist Anjali Nath as she launches her Khelna (Play) series! Experience the vast and unexpectedly proufound yet playful world of Indian classical kathak dance and music. With live music, Kathak is a magical language of expression and connection. Join us and discover the vocal, rhythmic, and movement foundations behind the brilliant and joyous experience of Kathak Khelna! Weaving together the rich traditions of Kathak with the joy of play, Anjali will be joined by esteemed musical collaborators from India. Workshops take place Tuesday, May 28 through Sunday, June 2 at the Dance Complex and at the Academy for Creative Arts (Burlington). The series includes a Khelna Concert, a rarely done live collaboration and music-dance exchange between kathak, tabla, and sitar. FREE! – Join at BackRoom Boston for a performance project weaving together contemporary dance, traditional Ashkenazic music, feminism, & neo-Hasidism! Plus a Community Yiddish dance party! Hadar Ahuvia’s nefesh spans across generations & genres. Reception with light bites & open bar follows the performance. Donations apreciated. Frequency Coherence by Mary Teuscher brings you into a world that exists in the remnants of the one we inhabit today. This “story” follows four characters through multiple dimensions and webs of connection. Thursday, May 23, 7 PM, at the Cambridge Foundry, 101 Rogers St., Cambridge. Tickets: $10.
The Record Company for Boston New Music Initiative’s core ensemble directed by John Masko, performs music that explores the ideas of Sound, Image and Gesture in meaningful and unique ways. Highlights include brand new choreography created by Kimberleigh Holman performed by Katrina Conte for Leah Reid’s Cloud Burst. Tickets are available for both livestream and in person. Dance Transports You is Northeast School of Ballet‘s Showcase, a fun performance evening designed to highlight the versatility of their students. Saturday, May 25, 7:30 PM. Adventure Awaits, NSB’s Lecture-Demonstration is structured to educate the audience on the training of a dancer from ages 4-18 and concludes with a performance of Joseph Jefferies’ Gaîté Parisienne by their pre-professional trainees. Saturday, May 26, 2:00 PM, at the J. Everett Collins Center for the Performing Arts, 100 Shawsheen Rd., Andover, MA. Tickets: $25-$35.
The Chinese Folk Art Workshop presents their annual show “The Dragon 2024“. Sunday, May 26, 2:00 & 7:30 PM, at Casey Theater, Regis College, 235 Wellesley St., Weston, MA.
North Atlantic Ballet offers a Pre-Professional Summer Intensive with 5 classes per day, 5 days a week and an in-studio performance at the end of the program. Classes include: ballet, pre-pointe/pointe, variations, contemporary, jazz and conditioning. July 1-July 26, Monday through Friday, 9 AM-4 PM, with 3-week or 4-week program options. Registration deadline: June 1.
Audition for Tess Saoirse Dane Company. This mid-season audition seeks dancers who are looking for recreational community-based dance. The annual performance will be September 7 and 8, 2024 with additional pop up opportunities throughout the season. The audition is open to dancers 18+ with any/all backgrounds in dance training. Audition for KAIROS Dance Theater Trainee Program Wednesday, May 29, 11:30 AM-2:30 PM at MassMotion Boston, 100 Holton St., Brighton. The trainee program runs September 30 through December 1 with rehearsals on Mondays, 12:00-3:00 PM and Wednesdays 11:30 AM-2:30 PM at MassMotion Boston. There will be a culminating performance on Sunday, December 1 (time TBD). Registration required to audition. Registration deadline is Friday, May 24.
Last chance to apply to the BCA Dancemakers Residency and Dance LAB. Application deadline is Monday, May 27, 11 PM.
Simon Montalvo‘s a house with no walls: first floor premiere’s next week as a part of the Boston Dancemakers Residency Showcase. This evening-length dance production shares stories of transgender and gender nonconforming people through movement, physical theater, and audio interviews. Drawing parallels between the physical body and a house, this work explores the possibilities of existing outside of traditional structures, as a means to look towards a utopian vision. Who are we now, and who do we wish to become? Friday, June 7, 8 PM and Saturday, June 8, 2 & 8 PM at the Plaza Theatre at BCA, 539 Tremont Street, Boston. Tickets: $25.
