Join Urbanity X Artist, Rachel Linsky, for a repertory workshop featuring material from her newest work, “Looking Back, Stepping Forward”.

Created through a collaboration between Linsky’s ZACHOR Dance Projects and Ezekiel’s Wheels Klezmer Band, “Looking Back, Stepping Forward” is a trilogy of works that fuse elements of Yiddish folk dance into her contemporary practice.

The show explores diasporic identity and what it means to honor our histories while allowing tradition to live, change, and evolve in our bodies. Through dialogue between music and dance, past and present, individual and collective, and the tension that lives in each of those conversations, the work offers a joyful model of cultural exchange. It celebrates how these forms allow us to find space for our own voice within the context of a community, and how it is the questions these traditions invite us to ask that get us there.

The workshop will begin with a contemporary warm-up, followed by learning repertory from the piece and exploring some of the movement principles that informed its creation. Participants will get to dance to live music by the phenomenal Nat Seelen!

The workshop is free! Space is limited, so advance registration is required.

Geared towards intermediate and advanced dancers.
