Movement Choir is a process of self-expression and community-building through dance-making. The concept, based on singing choirs, was developed by dance theorist Rudolf Laban (1879-1958). The Movement Choir welcomes all movers and reflects Laban’s belief that Dance is a community act–in the preparation, in the organization, and above all, in the shared experience. The Choir process will focus on Laban’s Shape and Relationship concepts and will culminate in a shared informance.

Frederick Curry MA, CMA, PMA®-CPT, is a Professor of Professional Practice in the Department of Dance, Mason Gross School of the Arts, Rutgers University, where his focus is on dance pedagogy and Laban Movement Analysis. He is also on faculty at the Laban/Bartenieff Institute of Movement Studies and the 92Y Dance Education Laboratory (DEL) in New York City and was previously on faculty at NYU Steinhardt School. Frederick serves on the Advisory Board of Directors of the National Dance Education Organization.
