George Antheil “Bad Boy of Music” Film & Music Mini-Festival
A two-day event with films, live performances, and lectures about the self-proclaimed “Bad Boy of Music” and his two very different careers: ultra-modern composer in 1920s Paris, and pillar of Hollywood film music in the 1940s and ’50s. The festival will culminate on March 7 at 8:00 pm with the US premiere of a new version of Antheil’s infamous “Ballet mécanique” (1925) for solo pianist and acousmonium (multiple loudspeakers) in the Distler Performance Hall, featuring avant-garde pianist extraordinaire Guy Livingston, along with a new high definition print of the film “Ballet mécanique” by Fernand Léger and Dudley Murphy.
All festival events are free and open to the public, and no tickets are required.
The festival is made possible by the Granoff Music Fund.
