BDA Celebrates Andrea Herbert Major and James K Spriggs at 2017 Gala

We are delighted to announce that on Sunday, May 21, 2017 Boston Dance Alliance will honor Andrea Herbert Major, founder of Roxbury Center for the Performing Arts, as the 2017 Dr. Michael Shannon Dance Champion, and philanthropist James K Spriggs as the 2017 BDA Unsung Hero.

Andrea Herbert Major is marking her 50th anniversary as a gifted teacher, mentor, and community leader in Boston. Beginning to dance at the age of three, she graduated from the Boston Conservatory and continued studies at Dance Theatre of Harlem. Generations of students have flourished under her guidance. Some, like dancers Christopher Huggins, Ebony Williams and Joe Gonzales, have gone onto major dance careers. Many others have developed lifelong commitments to dance and the arts.

James K. Spriggs’ broad-ranging philanthropy has touched many of Boston’s independent dance artists, institutions and projects. A retired postal worker, his generosity,  enthusiasm, and good humor have enabled dancers across the Boston area to turn their dreams into reality.

Mark your calendars for the May 21, 2017 gala, which will be held at the Mosesian Center for the Arts in Watertown, to celebrate dance and the power of community!
