Annex Contemporary Dance Company, the Seacoast’s premiere dance troupe, returns to the STAR Theatre this month with An Evening of Dance, Friday, July 26 and Saturday, July 27 at 7pm.

This exciting program will include a diverse collection of new and repertory works by Artistic Director Julie Hebb, York resident and former principal dancer with NYC’s Rebecca Kelly Ballet. Utilizing contemporary ballet and modern dance forms, Hebb’s choreography explores the dancers’ relationship to diverse musical scores and to one another––investigating what pulls people together and drives them apart. The company’s newest work, set to an electronic soundscape, explores themes of empathy and discord, investigating how it feels to walk in someone else’s shoes. Pathways is a collection of sweeping solos and interconnected groupings that explore how divergent roads can meet and deviate, and can often lead to something new and unexpected. Two Cellos is a collection of intricate and thoughtful duets and quartets that respond to the emotional resonance captured in the music of Jean-Baptiste Barrière. Crazy, a playful quintet, is set to and inspired by the music of Patsy Cline.

Completing the program is the premiere of Zephyr, a new work by choreographer and long-time company member, Meghan McCoy Seedner. This exciting and intricate contemporary ballet reflects the transition of the seasons. Also performing will be students from The Dance Annex Studio Summer Intensive.
