Last season, Luminarium held an open call for applications from cultural organizations across the state, from which the company would select its 2017 Cultural Community Outreach Project location (a project now in its 6th year). The winner was obvious: The Fuller Craft Museum in Brockton MA. Congratulations to Fuller Craft!

Yesterday, Luminarium officially kicked off its one-week residency, Kinetic Craft, at the museum for the entire week of April school vacation (Daily, 10am-5pm Tuesday, April 18 through Sunday, April 23, 2017). The company constructed a series of “breathing installations”—a concept first developed by Guerra back in 2011 with Luminarium’s fabric installation at the Boston Center for the Arts’ Movement at the Mills event. For Kinetic Craft, Luminarium highlights the five crafting elements—Textiles, Ceramics, Wood, Glass, and Metal—set into motion by both Guerra and fellow Artistic Director Kimberleigh A. Holman.

This weeklong exhibition of performance art is family-friendly and perfect for all ages and abilities. Peruse the museum at your leisure as dancers from each installation perform and interact with those passing by. Peer through an antique window into the fort of the Textiles Installation where a dancer stitches colorful fabric onto her dress; direct the melody played in the Metal Installation, as the performer moves through a 10’ x 10’ dance-propelled wind chime in sync with your commands; then wander down the hallway to find a performer ensconced in clay for the Ceramics Installation.
