Movement Intensive Workshop with Mesma Belsaré and Wendy Jehlen
For dancers and teachers with five or more years of training.
ANIMAL BODY / HUMAN BODY
By Mesma Belsaré
Classical dance trains us to shape the visible body with extraordinary precision. Beneath that cultivated surface lives another body. Older. Instinctive. Fully awake.
This movement intensive for dancers and teachers draws on Mesma Belsaré’s choreographic research. Through guided movement explorations and compositional exercises, participants explore the body’s instinctive animal center—the foundational layer from which expressive movement emerges.
The workshop culminates in a choreographed movement study.
FLIPPING NARRATIVES
By Wendy Jehlen
Through an athletic, full body movement experience drawing on a range of Capoeira, Kalaripayattu, Bharatanatyam, and Butoh practices participants will interrogate the cultural narratives and individual narratives we hold in our minds, our literature and our bodies.
