SIDI LARBI CHERKAOUI’S EASTMAN
Belgian dance artist Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui is one of the world’s most internationally sought-after choreographers, Artistic Director of Ballet Flanders, and most recently, choreographer of Jagged Little Pill, the new musical featuring the music of Alanis Morissette and choreographer for Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s newest music video Apes**t.
Cherkaoui performs with his company Eastman in Fractus V, a work originally created for the 40th Anniversary of Pina Bausch’s Tanztheater Wuppertal and inspired by the political philosophy of Noam Chomsky exploring the production and manipulation of information.
“A thrillingly expansive watch, large with possibilities and potent with ideas” (The Guardian), the work is an amalgamation of cultures featuring five male dancers with diverse movement backgrounds ranging from circus and Lindy-hop to flamenco and hip-hop, and musicians performing a varied composition with influences ranging fromKorean, Indian, Congolese, and Japanese.
