Dancing Joy with Dance Caliente is an Interactive Ballroom Dance Show designed to sweep you off your feet! Not only will we perform dances like the waltz, Argentine tango and more but after each visual delight, you will be invited to learn some of the moves! And it’s free! Wednesday, August 10, 1:30-2:30PM at the Brookline Senior Center, 93 Winchester St., Brookline.
inPUBLIC: Wild Rumpus This 3-day Festival invites you to experience play in public space through movement, dance, rest, creation, games, and music. Wild Rumpus is curated by a multi-racial team of local artists with the intentions of centering joy and creative expression across communities of Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC) in the heart of downtown Boston. In collaboration with over 30 artists, each day will offer collective nourishment, imagination building, and play in public. Thursday, August 11, 5 PM – Saturday, August 13, 4 PM.
Live Arts Arlington (LAA) returns to the newly renovated Broadway Plaza in Arlington Center for a new season of free outdoor art experiences with a live dance performance by Seyyide Sultan! Seyyide – which means “Lady” in Arabic – is a dancer well known for her authentic Raqs Sharqi (which means Oriental Dance, commonly referred to as “belly dance”) throughout New England. She specializes in Egyptian style. Friday, August 12 at 6 PM.
Brownbody comes to The Yard for a performance-based residency August 10-15th, 2022. While in residence they will perform Tracing Sacred Steps at the Martha’s Vineyard Ice Arena on Friday, August 12 at 7 PM. Tracing Sacred Steps blends modern dance, figure skating, and ring shout.
Boston Ballet Community Dance Day Celebrate dance and learn during a day of creative and interactive events, hosted at Boston Ballet studios in the South End. The event will also feature a screening of the new CITYDANCE documentary created in partnership with NBC/Universal. Saturday, August 13, 10 AM – 4 PM at 19 Clarendon Street, Boston.
In collaboration with Greenway Conservancy, Pao Arts Center and Curator Leslie Anne Condon have curated the New Narratives Series: Present and Future celebrating the cultural power that flows through AAPI communities across the Asian diaspora, in ways that vocalize both struggles and joys. Boston-area spoken word artists and dancers, including The Flavor Continues draw upon a wide range of artistic styles, cultural traditions, and languages from AAPI communities and beyond. Saturday, August 13, 3:00 PM 6:00 PM.
Bachata Passion Get ready to dance all styles of bachata with sprinkles of salsa, zouk, and kizomba. Not one style of music will dominate the night, providing a wonderful balanced night of all your bachata passions! We will start the night with a special sensual bachata lesson with Liliana Jimenez, and then get right into the dancing with DJ Ninrod. MAGMA hosts Day of Dance in Gloucester! It’s that time of year again, for a fabulous day of jazz dancing with Boston’s jazz royalty, Jeannette Neill. Classes range from Barre on the Mat to jazz, with teachers Sarah Slifer, Jim Viera, and Sue Murray. All technique classes are Intermediate/ Intermediate-Advanced. Register early or just show up! City Ballet of Boston invites you to attend the 2022 Studio Sessions! This intimate studio performance will feature the City Ballet of Boston professionals in Respighi’s “Airs and Dances” as well as new choreographic works. In addition, Janelle Gilchrist Dance Troupe will perform an excerpt of Wynton Marsalis’ “At the Octoroon Balls”, with live accompaniment by violinist Lisa Goddard. FirstWorks Summer Beats Concert Series features William Cepeda Afro-Rican Jazz
Celebrate the heritage of Puerto Rican music and its African roots. William Cepeda is a cultural icon of Puerto Rico. Lydia Perez, an award-winning Afro-Taino artist from Rhode Island will lead dancers from the Puerto Rican Institute for Arts and Advocacy in an energetic concert opener. Free. This week at Jacob’s Pillow catch Hubbard Street Dance Chicago at the Ted Shawn Theatre. Also watch Dance Heginbotham at the outdoor Henry J. Leir Stage and Liz Lerman‘s long awaited Wicked Bodies at the Festival Tent.
Abilities Dance Boston seeks 1-2 Dancers for their Inversion Ballet. Must have some dance experience and embrace the intersectional disability equity mission. Must be available Fridays at 6:30 – 7:30 PM and Saturdays at 5:00 PM. Deaf/disabled, BIPOC, and BIPOC/deaf/disabled dancers are highly encouraged to apply.
Urbanity is seeking a Choreography Fellow for the 2022-2023 company season. The Choreography Fellow works directly with the Professional Company by teaching company class every other Monday from 10-11:30 (14 classes per season), as well as co-choreographing one work with Company Director Meg Anderson in March of 2023. The Choreography Fellow will choreograph a second work for a hired engagement between September and May. The Choreography Fellow residency is a one-season commitment with a stipend for the season. Applicants can submit an application by emailing materials to meg@urbanitydance.org. The deadline to submit applications is 11:59 PM EST on Monday, August 22.
Preschool Moves and School Moves programs seek Hip Hop Teachers for the fall in the afternoons, 3-5 PM. Location is Wellesley and Wakefield public elementary schools. Candidates must have prior experience with kids ages 2-11, a year of teaching experience, passion for kids, teaching and dance. Mass Cultural Council is looking for diverse application reviewers for STARS Residencies grant program. STARS funds residencies of three days or more in K-12 schools that bring students and teachers together with teaching artists, scientists, and scholars for rich creative education experiences. Reviewers read and score applications online over the month of November and receive a stipend. Massachusetts residents only; experience with K-12 school or community education preferred. Wilmington Dance Academy is looking for a ballet teacher for fall season, (September 10, 2022 – June 10, 2023). Classes happen Mondays 3:45-8:15 and Tuesdays 4:00-7:00 possibly 8:00. Individual will work with a mix of levels, classes would consist of a (1) beginner level class, (2) Beg/Interm classes, (2) advanced classes, (2) Pointe classes and a possible teen class. West Concord Dance Academy is seeking a hip hop teacher for the upcoming season! They are looking for somebody for at least two hours per week (two one-hour classes), but if you’re interested in more you could certainly teach more. The studio is located in West Concord right next to the commuter rail stop.
