Making Dances emphasizes movement improvisation, group processes, and creative problem solving. Classes begin with structured improvisations. These serve as a non-technical/open-level warm-up. Students will practice movement improvisation based on various methods of sourcing material. They will learn basic contact skills. Movement problems based on oral and written language skills for describing movement will be explored as well as visual scores. As basic skills are developed we will spend more and more time on generating movement material that can be remembered and manipulated.
