Dancing in both loss and joy

 

Congratulations to the dance artists and dance-focused arts administrators who will be members of the National Arts Strategies’ 2021-2022 Creative Community Fellows: New England Cohort. Thanks to funding from the Barr Foundation, they will participate in a ten month fellowship designed to help them embrace their capacities for authentic leadership, examine partnerships and strategies, and strengthen their connections with their communities. Recipients include Christopher Croucher. Jinyi Duan, Ellice Patterson, Greg Torrales, and Amanda Whitworth.

 

 

Taking Class and Teaching It: Multiple Intents in the Studio, is being presented on Zoom onTuesday, November 30th at 6pm. A part of the Dance Complex Learning to Walk the Talk Series, three Dance Complex teaching artists will discuss what it means to teach and study at The Dance Complex.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Join artists, dancers, musicians, friends, and collaborators in a procession from City Hall to the Boston Center for the Arts’ Cyclorama November 30 beginning at 10:45 PM. There they’ll formally open SPOKE’s 30th Annual World AIDS Day Touched: In Times of Pandemic, a multimedia series of cultural actions that illustrate the healing power of human contact and the pain of its absence. KAIROS Dance Theater  with cellist Sam Ou will open the evening’s events. The 24-hour vigil begins at midnight.

 

 

Tell Me More! Misty Copeland and the Ballerinas of the 152nd Street Black Ballet Legacy, will take place at WBUR CitySpace on December 1st at7:30pm. Virtual and in-person tickets are available here.

 

 

 

 

This year’s ON DISPLAY GLOBAL will be a virtual 24-hour live zoom event that audience members and performers can move into and out of throughout the day. The Harvard component, will take place from 4-5pm EST on Friday, December 3rd, featuring a number of local dancers.

Bates Dance Festival director of training programs Allie James teaches a master class and shares information about the summer 2022 season at The Dance Complex, Saturday, December 4th at 2-3:30pm.  Free, but registration is required!

 

 

 

 

 

Yin Yue, a contemporary dancer and choreographer, is teaching a mini-workshop for DELving into Dance History with Jacobs Pillow. The workshop takes place on December 4th from 2-5pm and will explore aspects of Yin Yue’s FOCO Technique, a fusion dance technique inspired by the Chinese folk and contemporary dance movement.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Evolve Dynamicz presents Revive on Saturday, December 4th at 8pm and Sunday, December 5th at 7pm at The Dance Complex. Virtual and in-person tickets are available. The production is comprised of a dynamic range of improvised pieces and is a reminder of the strength and resilience inherent to communities.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Calling all choreographers! It’s time to sign up for National Choreography Month Boston 2022! NACHMO is a chance to build community, connect with local artists, and get that kick in the pants to start your year off by creating! Participation is open to anyone, whether you’re a brand new choreographer, seasoned creator, or somewhere in between. NACHMO takes place throughout the month of January, all around Boston with in person events and virtual options. Applications are open now — and conversational applications on Zoom — with or without ASL — make the process equitable and accessible.
