CONGRATULATIONS to OrigiNation Founding Artistic Director Shaumba Dibinga on receiving the UMOJA AWARD at the recent Black Biz Ball! We are so proud of all the work she has done serving young people for 30+ years.

 

 

 

 

 

 

ANIKAYA will host a The Women Gather open studio experience in Somerville Wednesday, May 18 at 7-8PM. The performers and lighting designer Annie Wiegand will be in the space working on a series of movement/sound/light/weaving scores. Audience members can come and go or stay for the duration. They can leave comments and questions or stay until the end to discuss directly with the artists.

 

Boston Conservatory at Berklee Alumni will premiere the second annual Alumni Dance on Film Festival! Starting at 12pm EST on May 18, ten Conservatory alumni from all corners of the globe will debut original works created for film!

 

Riley Watts, Heather Stewart & little house dance present Hour Wolf in the Lighthouse, an iterative performance on states of mourning and the physical mind. Wednesday, May 18 through Friday, May 20 at 7:30PM in Portland, ME.

 

We Creates 9th season focuses on BIPOC Legacy in the Arts. This process-oriented festival gives artists the opportunity to create original works around an annual theme during a period of 5 months, supported by mentors and an artist cohort. Experience the immersive festival at Warehouse xi in Somerville featuring film, installation, dance, music, and mixed media. Thursday, May 19 and Friday, May 20 at 8PM.

 

Catherine Siller is having an open rehearsal at at Connexion in Somerville for her new piece: The Reveal, which tells the story of a protagonist’s pathway through their gender identity. Friday, May 20 at 7:30PM

 

Integrarte Spring Dance Celebration features nine shows with beautiful dances from “Le Corsaire,” “Romeo and Juliet”, new contemporary works and more! Admission is free for all performances, and open to all. Friday, May 20 at 7PM and Saturday, May 21 at 6:30PM

 

A Night in Bloom Gala showcases The Center for Arts at the Armory as a vital home for the arts in Somerville through compelling performances, recognition of cultural honorees, and delightful beverages and bites. Friday, May 20.

 

Urbanity’s 10th anniversary season concludes with inTENtion: featuring performances of new works choreographed by Meg Anderson, Nailah Randall-Bellinger, Key’Aira Lockett, Levi Marsman, and Asia Pyron. Friday, May 20 and Saturday, May 21 at 7:30PM

Subject:Matter Tap hosts a Jamwith live music on Saturday, May 21 at 7PM at Deborah Mason Performing Arts Center

 

After a hiatus, the Boston Tango Orchestra returns to Dance Unionon Saturday, May 21 at 9PM with La Milonga

 

Follow up on the BDA Gala with Nino de los Reyes flamenco workshops at the Dance Complex  featuring special guest teacher Triana Maciel Prats in an ALL-LEVEL opportunity to dive into technique and choreography!

Saturday, May 21 class will be based on the fundamentals of flamenco with a general technique for the usage of arms, hands, body posture, movement in space, standard turns, footwork, all within the various flamenco rhythms. Sunday, May 22 will be focused on intermediate/advanced choreography!

 

On Sunday, May 22 at 4:30PM, JP Jitterbugs we will be holding an afternoon workshop at Jamaica Pond, led by Eliane Desjardins, with teaching assistance from JP locals Bradley Lan and Liz Coppock

 

Eliza Malecki presents Flow and Gather about finding a sense of place inside oneself, in a community, in a relationship, and in the world. This show is a culmination of the Artist in Residency program supported by the Lawrence Arts Collective and the Transformative Development Initiative. Sunday, May 22 at 6PM

 

Deborah Mason Dudley’s memoir Life is but a Dance is out!
In this rich and spirited memoir, Mason takes us from the beginning of her journey in rugged East Cambridge, where she came from small means and worked three jobs in pursuit of her dreams of becoming an entrepreneur, and how that goal was realized in her studio business and the community she has built around her

Deborah Mason’s CYDP Dance Company is holding placement auditions on TUESDAY, MAY 31ST, 2022 (ages 8-11) AND WEDNESDAY, JUNE 1ST, 2022 (ages 12+). CYDP Dance Company is a nonprofit pre-professional dance company for youth in the Greater Boston area. This also includes the Bridge Program, which is a transitional curriculum for dancers in recreational classes looking to commit to more rigorous expectations in their training

 

Utopia Dance Company is hosting auditions/open house for our Spring 2022 Student Performance Team on Sunday, May 22 from 12:00 PM – 01:30 PM. (No experience needed) Open house includes complimentary salsa class for all levels. Come in comfortable clothing/shoes (no outside shoes allowed in the dance studio). Once accepted to the dance company, rehearsals will begin in June

 

The Gold School Dance Art in Brockton, MA is looking for inspiring and reliable teachers beginning this Fall for their 59th season in all styles of dance for dancers all ages and abilities. Haitian Folkloric and Afro-Cuban is a plus but they are interested in everyone. Please send information and resumes to renniegold@gmail.com

 

Lexington School of Ballet is seeking experienced ballet teachers for classes for junior and senior high school students. Teachers are needed for classes on Wednesday and Friday afternoons/evenings for the academic year 2022-2023.

Applicants should be able to teach at an intermediate and advanced ballet level with pointe and variations. Character dance experience is appreciated. ABT or RAD syllabus training is highly valued.

We are looking for teachers who are enthusiastic and passionate about the art form of ballet, enjoy teaching, and are happy to work as part of a dedicated team of teachers. Competitive pay based on experience

 

 

Jacob’s Pillow has partnered with the global video channel NOWNESS to produce Body Language–a series of three films centered on the theme of breaking cultural boundaries in dance.

Virginia-born Irish dance TikTok sensation Morgan Bullock’s unique style bridges the centuries-long tradition of Irish dance and contemporary hip-hop culture. In this moving portrait of a genre-defying dancer, director Haley Anderson pared down the frame to spotlight the static virtuosity of Irish dancing. Shot on analog film against a simple black backdrop, Bullock challenges herself to a dance-off soundtracked by Cautious Clay and Saba’s “Strange Love.”
