Pro/Motion – week of December 23

Dear BDA Community,

For dancers to move, we have to stay fine-tuned and well-resources, too, which is why Boston Dance Alliance (BDA) proudly brings you…

  • Dancer Health Days: Twice a year, BDA convenes teams of specialized healthcare professionals to conduct screenings that assess physical, mental, and nutritional well-being of dancers and to provide info on related local services for continued care.
  • Fiscal Sponsorship: Year-round, BDA facilitates access to funding for dancers’ creative practices through a fiscal sponsorship program that disbursed nearly $440,000 to over 30 dancers & dance companies in 2024.

… but we cn’t do it alone. Your support enables us to sustain these specialized services so foundational to dancers’ success.

And for the next week, any & all donations to BDA will be doubled thanks to a matching gift from two anonymous donors. So don’t delay, donate today!

Thanks in advance for helping us do double for dance!

Novum Dance Collective logo

Nozama Dance Collective is now Novum Dance Collective!

“Novum”–meaning new, fresh, novel, unusual–reflects our evolution as we shift to a more professional model. With this new name and model, their core mission remains: creating socially-conscious art that sparks change and celebrates intersectional identities.

At Novum, they remain dedicated to their roots as a true collective and community of artists—collaborative, inclusive, and focused on exploring intersectional identities through dance. With this new identity, they’re embracing a more focused, professional model. Performances will be more ambitious, creative processes more intensive, and their dancers more dedicated than ever before. They’re introducing higher expectations for artistry and technique, a rigorous rehearsal schedule, and new opportunities for dancers to grow as choreographers, teachers, and arts leaders.

As part of this shift, Novum will be paying dancers as contractors and applying for more community performance opportunities throughout the Northeast. They’re excited to raise the visibility of their work and continue to build a space where dance becomes a powerful force for social change.

While their structure may be evolving, their core values remain unchanged: community, collaboration, and a commitment to celebrating diverse and intersectional identities through movement.

BDA is a proud fiscal sponsor of Novum and congratulates the group on this new stage!
