I hope you’ve been able to stay grounded in these windy and turbulent days. As we approach the end of the month, I’d like to take a moment to highlight that in addition to being Black History Month, February is also Heart Health Month.
For dancers and non-dancers alike, it’s important to keep your heart healthy. A lot of heart health comes from a holistic overview on your health and well being. At BDA we continuously work to help our community stay healthy. In case you haven’t seen it before we have some health resources listed on our website.

Dancer and choreographer Jenny Oliver partners with five other dancers for an afternoon of new choreography and commissioned music. Sankofa: A Journey Through the African Diaspora Experience is an interdisciplinary cultural performance that delves into the rich history, struggles, resilience, and triumphs of people of African descent. The program is designed to celebrate diverse cultural expressions through the powerful mediums of music, dance, and the spoken word. Performed by members of Art of Black Dance and Music, Inc., under the direction of arts educator and founder De Ama Battle, this multifaceted program blends artistic performances with educational elements, offering a multi-sensory exploration of shared cultural histories and their global impact. Audiences will experience ancestral traditions, the roots of the Black American experience, and the many ways these influences have shaped and continue to shape music, movement, and storytelling across generations and continents. Audition for Evolve Dynamicz! Evolve Dynamicz is composed of two sub-companies – Evolve Repertoire and Improv Dynamicz – that contribute to the artistic depth and reach of the overall organization. Auditions will take place on Wednesday, February 26, 6 PM, at SomArt Art Space @ the Hive, 561 Windsor St., 4th Floor, Somerville. Audition check-in is from 5:30 – 5:55 PM. Dancers are welcome to use the space to warm up during this time. Please complete the Registration Form by Tuesday, February 25.
Metrowest Dance Academy in Framingham is seeking experienced teachers for contemporary and hip-hop to start fall of 2025. MDA has a professional and qualified faculty teaching classical ballet, contemporary, tap, jazz and hip hop. Focus is on progressive teaching and training in all genres from age 3-18. No teams or competitions. Consider applying if you have professional dance teaching qualifications and up-to-date teaching experience. References will be requested and successful applicants will be invited to teach a class at MDA as part of the application process. Making it Public (MIP) for Massachusetts Artists is a free five-week virtual workshop series designed by Forecast Public Art (FPA) to support artists of all disciplines in exploring and expanding their public art making practice. At the conclusion of the workshop series, participating artists will be better equipped to respond to a Call for Temporary Public Art and foster more vibrant and equitable public spaces through artmaking. The 2025 Artist Track training will take place virtually on Tuesdays from 5:00-6:30 PM, March 4- April 1, 2025. Register by Friday, February 21.
Mass Cultural Council announced the FY26 Operating Grants for Organizations application cycle. This program offers multi-year, unrestricted operating grants to nonprofit cultural organizations and cultural affiliates that enrich cultural life across the Commonwealth.
