FREE! – Whether you are new to partnered social dance or a ballroom expert, join Holly Stone and Michael Winward for an American Foxtrot lesson with a gender-expansive approach, followed by an open social dance featuring a variety of dance styles. Friday, February 23, 6-8 PM, at the Jackson Dance Lab at Tufts, 50 Talbot Ave., Medford.
Cassie Wang performs in Photoplay: Vocal Improv. An ensemble of singers (led by Angela Yam and Nathan Halbur), with percussionist Denver Nuckolls, explore the intersection of improvised music and movement. They will spontaneously create live soundtracks for classic abstract films, as well as for new works by contemporary filmmakers. In collaboration with Cassie, they will explore the physical movement of the human body in space, and its relationship to sound. This immersive experience will also include communal music-making. Light refreshments will be provided. Friday, February 23, 7-9 PM at Vivid Oblivion, 288 Norfolk Street 2A, Cambridge. Tickets are $15.
Anjali Nath brings Daylong Kathak Workshop & Showing to The Dance Complex. Spend the day moving your body from head to toe, creating rhythms, and learning a full story to bring it all together. The workshop will culminate in sharing what was learned to each other as well as guests. Breaks will be given throughout the day. Saturday, February 24, 10 AM-4 PM. Registration: $45.
Srija Wang/Nrityaarpana School of Bharatanatyam bring Ahut, meaning sacrifice in Sanskrit, to The Dance Complex. This is a Bharatanatyam recital accompanied by a live orchestra – the theme around this recital is to celebrate the legacy of Sri Adyar K Lakshman. Srija will be presenting a set of traditional items with three other dancers. Saturday, February 24, 7:00-8:30 PM. Tickets: $15-$50.
Urbanity’s Creative Class hosts a Soiree with pop up performances by Urbanity Underground and Junior Apprentice dancers, a new dance film premiere and refreshments. Saturday, February 24, 7-10 PM at 725 Harrison Ave, #100, Boston. Tickets: $30.
Northeast Arts is proud to be hosting City Ballet of Boston artists for rehearsals as they prepare to perform in the Gala Grand Opening of Dirigo Conservatory of Movement. Performing a program of classical and contemporary work, CBB will be among class demonstrations and more dance activities. Audition for Red Bull’s Dance Your Style on Saturday, February 24, 5:30 PM at Boston Dance Studios! Two winners will earn a chance to compete in the Baltimore City Qualifier on Saturday, April 24. The winners of the Baltimore City Qualifier will have the opportunity to compete in the East USA Regional Qualifier back in Boston at House of Blues on May 4! Dancers must be 16+.
Apply for Bearnstow’s Summer 2024 Young Artist Internship. The program is an intensive summer program of dance, creative process and teamwork for a select group of hardworking individuals who show genuine promise and commitment to dance and other performing arts. Deadline is February 28.
Boston Dance Theater seeks choreographer for new 10-15 minute group work to be set on trainees, highlighting a particular aspect of one of the following topics, directly or indirectly, in process or product: Climate change; Underrepresented cultures and/or identities in dance. Choreographer will receive honorarium, 5 days (25h) of rehearsal time and a filmed video of performed work. Submissions deadline is Friday, March 22,11:59 PM. Apply today.
Goddard House is celebrating its 175th anniversary this year; it’s a vibrant community that values creativity, engagement, and holistic well-being. They have two exceptional programs that showcase their commitment to enriching the lives of our residents through the arts, both for which they seek dance professionals for: Goddard House Community Initiatives (GHCI) – inviting dance professionals, educators, and enthusiasts who may be interested in fostering a dynamic environment where movement, expression, and artistic exploration are embraced with neurodiverse older adults – and the Goddard House’s Olmstead Programming – seeking dance instructors, choreographers, or performers who can bring the joy of dance to their community of seniors with Dementia, encouraging movement and expression in the outdoor spaces of Goddard House. Salem Arts Festival returns June 8-9! Applications are now live for dance performances on their outdoor tiny stage and in Salem’s Historic Old Town Hall. All genres encouraged to apply! Performances which engage a broad range of audience through interaction, entertainment, costuming, and craft, are especially encouraged. Performers receive a modest stipend. Deadline is March 15.
Volunteer at Windhover this spring and summer. Their programs include a variety of events from Shakespeare plays to Jazz Sextets and a wide variety of ballet and modern dance including legendary companies from New York and Montreal. Behind-the-scenes work has started as they plan their 2024 schedule, and they need volunteers in many different capacities. Would you like to be a part of their team? Fill out their online form.
