Pro/Motion – week of October 30

The turning of the seasons reminds us of renewal of all kinds, and thoughts about what’s next. We’re thinking about renewal and the future too.

Is your BDA membership expired? Members now have their events highlighted with photos at the top of this newsletter’s event section. Take a minute to check out everything that makes membership great here.

For member and non-members events alike, be sure to tell us what you’re doing by filling out this new event form. Our weekly Pro/Motion email promotes all dance community events that week from Wednesday to next Tuesday.

Speaking of what’s next, the application deadline to be considered for BDA’s interim Executive Director position is tomorrow, October 31. Submit your cover note and CV to info@bostondancealliance.org.

BDA Member Events This Week

Jayshree Bala Rajamani from Bharathakalai School of Dance presents the 6th TriNethra-the third eye festival of dance. The festival showcases three classical dance forms and four artists, in tribute to Triveni School of Dance Founder and Artistic Director (And BDA Dance Champion) Neena Gulati. Be swept away by the dynamic Kuchipudi Dance performed by Kasi Ayasola and his student Archana Raja. Sonali Skandan is a Bharathanatyam Dancer now experimenting with her dance form. She will present works in the style of Shilpanatanam as developed by her mentor Maya Kulkarni. General admissions tickets $25; Gold Sponsor Dinner is $200. Saturday, November 4, 3:30-7:30 PM at the Scottish Rite Masonic Museum & Library, 33 Marrett Road, Lexington MA.

Celebrate 10 years of Jean Appolon Expressions at Banboche 2023! Jean and his dance company honor a year of vibrant, global community programming and immersion into Haitian culture. The evening includes dance performances, community highlights, handcrafted goods, drinks and an open dance floor. This year’s Banboche centers around Fèt Gede, the Haitian Day of the Dead. Saturday, November 4, 6:30-10:00 PM at Arts at the Armory, Somerville, MA. General admission tickets are $35; $400 gets you a VIP table for four.

FREE – Hip Hop Across the Pillow, a behind-the-scenes documentary documents the 50th Anniversary of Hip Hop and the artists who brought it to life at Jacob’s Pillow this summer.  This digital event debuts Monday, November 6.

The Performing Arts Department of Emerson College seeks an adjunct faculty member to teach a Modern Dance course during the Spring 2024 semester. Course happens Mondays & Wednesdays, 4:00-5:45 PM, from January 16-May 2, 2024, in-person at the Boston campus. To apply, please submit CV and cover letter.
