I hope you had a great Labor Day Weekend and are enjoying the last few moments of summer. As back to school energy settles in, it’s lovely to see so many dance engagements coming about. Between performances, workshops and funding opportunities, the fall promises to be filled with dance!
We’re hard at work making all the arrangements for our Open Call Audition and Dancer Health Day happening Saturday, September 14 at the Cambridge Foundry – more information on that and registration opening soon!! We’re also collaborating with The Dance Complex for the very first “Fall Into Dance” happening September 27.

FREE! – The Dance Complex‘s Dancing Outdoors series returns this week! Join Carmen S. Rizzo for Dance Church. Expect a high intensity all-level dance sesh designed for people of all shapes, sizes, backgrounds and identities. Enjoy the guided club vibes and generally just a great time moving with the community to some awesome songs. This series will offer 2 more FREE dance classes to get you moving outdoors. ArrowFest brings a lot of dance to it’s renewed space. The Dance Showcase highlights works by five Boston area dance companies: Anubhava Dance Company, Human Movement Project, Jean Appolon Expressions, Public Displays of Motion, and Unyted Stylz. This mini-festival will show off some of Boston’s brightest dance artists all under one ticket. Sunday, September 8, 6 PM at the Arrow St. Arts Theater, 2 Arrow St., Cambridge. Following the showcase, Cassie Wang in association with Midday Movement Series presents SKY, UNOBSTRUCTED. Monday, September 9, 6 PM, in the Studio. Right after, fiscal sponsee Rachel Linsky performs alongside Ira Klein, a multi-award-winning guitarist, composer, producer, and educator. Monday, September 9, 7 PM, in the Theater.
FREE! – Join PVDFest, Providence’s signature outdoor arts festival. This year’s festival returns to the beating heart of Downtown, animating the streets of the Creative Capital with astonishing international and local performances, art installations, parades, artisan markets, and world-class cuisine. FREE! – The Boston Arts Festival is back with more than 50 artists taking over Christopher Columbus Waterfront Park. The family-friendly fun will go on rain or shine. Blankets, chairs, and picnics are encouraged, and dogs are enthusiastically welcomed. Saturday, September 7 & Sunday, September 8, 11 AM-6 PM, at 100 Atlantic Ave, Boston.
FREE! – Joy is Resistance comes back to Carson Beach for its 2nd year, bringing together our vibrant community to enjoy Mother Nature and our Afro Indigenous Ancestry through the arts. The visionary Maestra Isaura Oliveira is promoting late afternoon to evening of Dance workshops, Ritual Chant & Dance Performance, Drum Circle, and for the first time a Live Brazilian Music Concert. Tess Saoirse Dance Company presents Conversations in Motion, a show comprised of choreography inspired based upon conversations and interviews each choreographer reflected upon in creating their movement. ROOTED is an exhibition-style showcase that takes guests on an immersive journey through the life of the rose who grew in concrete. This diverse showcase integrates elements of fashion, art, and movement, ensuring that there is something to intrigue and inspire every guest. Join José Mateo Ballet Theatre’s 36th annual production of The Nutcracker this holiday season! JMBT welcomes dancers of all backgrounds to audition for its professional company and character roles for the upcoming Nutcracker season. Professional dancers, adult ballet students, and college students are all encouraged to audition. Auditions will be held both in-person at JMBT studios located in Harvard Square and via video submission. Preference will be given to local dancers from the Greater Boston area.
Dancers must be legally authorized to work in the US. There will be 16 performances between December 7-22 at the Strand Theatre, Dorchester. Professionals’ rehearsals take place November 11-December 22 (6-week contract), Monday–Friday, 9 AM–4 PM. Children’s rehearsals take place September 28-December 6. All rehearsals are held at the JMBT Studios, 400 Harvard Street, Cambridge. Some weekends as necessary to rehearse with the children’s cast. Dancers should register online to audition. In-person children’s auditions take place Saturday, September 7, 9:00–10:00 AM (ages 6-7); 10:15–11:15 AM (ages 8-10);
11:30 AM–12:30 PM (ages 11-12); 11:30 AM–12:30 PM (“party boys” ages 8-14); 1:00–2:15 PM (ages 13-15); 2:30–4:00 PM (ages 16-18); professional auditions take place Saturday, September 7, 4:30 PM at JMBT Studios. Children’s audition fee: $25.
North Atlantic Ballet is holding its annual Nutcracker Casting Call for ages 5-18. This is a unique opportunity for young dancers to work alongside the professional dancers of the company and perform for their loved ones. Preregistration for the casting call is encouraged. Rehearsals are on Sundays and begin October 26 at Studios @ NAB, with possible Saturday evenings for teens. Performances run December 20-22 at The Cabot Theater in Beverly. Casting call/auditions happen Sunday, September 8, 12:00-12:45 PM (ages 5-7); 1:00-1:45 PM (ages 8-10), 2:00-2:45 PM (ages 11-13); 3:00-3:45 PM (ages 14+).
Join Community Contemporary Repertory Experience. Commit to a full seven weeks of class and choreography, and have the chance to perform alongside The Click in their fall community event, The Click’s Monster Mash Halloween Bash on Sunday, October 20, at The Dance Complex.
