Adaptive Ballroom Dancing
Since 2015, the Steps in Time ballroom dance program has brought ballroom dance classes and parties to assisted living and memory care communities in and around Greater Boston. Program founder and lead facilitator, Michael Winward, has been adapting partner dance steps in a variety of social dance styles, including Foxtrot, Waltz, Jitterbug, Paso Doble, and Hustle. In 2019, he is codifying these adaptations, forming a Steps in Time syllabus. His workshop at Summer Sizzle will be the first that he offers, in the practice of adaptive ballroom dancing, through the lens of the new syllabus. Rooted in the fundamentals of social partner dancing, this workshop is appropriate for anyone with a general interest. The information may prove particularly useful for anyone who cares for or works with older adults with limited mobility or dementia. No prior experience or partner necessary to attend!
