DeCu Modern Dance Technique Workshops!
DeCu is an abbreviation for “De Cuba,” which means “from or of” Cuba. Cuban Modern Technique, created in the 1960s in Havana, is a fusion of Modern Dance with Cuban Folkloric Dances, as well as elements of Flamenco, Ballet, Tai Chi and more. This technique helps beginner and intermediate dancers improve quickly by focusing on posture, extension, fluidity, and strength. In Cuba, it’s commonly known as “Clase Tecnica” or “Technique Class.”
In these special DeCu Modern Dance Technique workshops designed by Anara & Javier, we’ll dive into key building blocks of Cuban Modern Technique, emphasizing torso undulations, arm fluidity, and core strength—key elements of the style. Participants will leave with new ideas to incorporate into any dance style and techniques to work on at home!
